Industry Spotlight: Growth in Healthcare Education

The first schools we’ll cover in our Climb Industry Spotlight Series are those in the healthcare field. With around 2,600 schools around the US offering training programs in subjects such as Registered Nursing, Surgical Technician, Physical Therapist Assistant, this is one of the fastest-growing sectors in the economy. Average enrollment in these programs is around 1,300, and there are dozens of schools with over 10,000 students. For careers in the healthcare industry itself, 235,000 jobs were added in the first half of 2016, and 11 of the 20 projected fastest-growing occupations are in this sector. Additionally, the healthcare industry is projected to see a 20% increase in job growth over the next decade!1
Projected Growth in the Healthcare Industry
Two career tracks in particular that we partner with—Vocational/Practical Nursing and Registered Nursing—have entry level salaries ranging from around $35,000–40,000 and $50,000–60,000, respectively.2 And the educational programs themselves draw from individuals with high school diplomas to mid-career students with previous degrees. Typically, students find post-program jobs that are tied to the subject matter directly, with employment at clinics, hospitals, or private medical offices. The schools that we’ve partnered with in this field have passed our in-depth ROI evaluation, and have shown that they offer strong graduation rates and career placement results to their students—after all, everyone benefits when more caring and qualified people are able to enter the medical field after receiving a good education.
